Description: Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce is offered at the Department of Commerce, Faculty of Commerce & Business.  The area of Specialization offered includes Accounting, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour and Development and other related areas.

 ADMISSION FOR Ph. D. IN COMMERCE

  1. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR Ph. D.
  • Candidate must have secured minimum 55% marks in M.Com./M.Phil./MBA/ MIB/MHROD/MFC from a recognized University with 5% relaxation for OBC/SC/ST and Persons with Disability.
  • Foreign nationals must provide evidence of competence in English language and should have studied Mathematics/Statistics in their post graduate degree. Foreign students shall apply through FSR (Foreign Students’ Registry).

  • Note: No Candidate shall be eligible to register for the Ph. D. programme if s/he is already registered for any full-time programme of study in any University/Institution and shall not be permitted to undertake any full-time course during the pendency of the programme.

 

  1. MODES OF ADMISSION

There are two modes of admission in the Ph. D. programme

(2.1) Written Entrance test

(2.2) Direct Interview

(2.1) Written Entrance test

  • The Written entrance test would be compulsory for students who are otherwise eligible for admission to the Ph. D. Programme. The entrance test will be conducted once in a year and the eligibility of shortlisted candidates shall remain valid till the next entrance test is held or one year, whichever is earlier.
  • The Entrance Test will be a qualifying examination with qualifying marks as 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC(NC)/PWD). There shall be a combined entrance test for M.Phil. and Ph. D.  The syllabus for the entrance test will consist of 50% questions on research aptitude/methodology and 50% subject-specific questions from the following areas:

  • Marketing
  • Organisational Behaviour and Development

  • There would be 50 MCQs and the duration of the examination is 2 hours. Each question would carry four marks with a negative marking for the wrong answer.  The maximum marks would be 200.

  • Department shall notify the shortlisted candidates to be called for a personal interview through its website.
  •  
  • (2.2) Direct Interview

The eligible candidates, exempted* from the entrance test, shall be called for an interview to be notified through the Department website.

  1. PROCEDURE OF ADMISSION TO Ph. D. PROGRAMME

3.1 Through Written Entrance Test

Candidates seeking admission in Ph. D. through entrance test are required to follow:

3.1.1 Fill the required form available as and when notified on the University portal.

3.1.2 Appear in Written/Online Entrance Test as notified.

3.1.3 Those candidates, who are in service, shall submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer.

3.1.4 If shortlisted and called for interview, submit a brief research proposal as notified (approximately of 2500 words) which may be subject to Plagiarism check). Bring four copies at the time of interview.  

3.1.5 Eligible/Shortlisted candidates shall appear for a personal interview before the duly constituted Committee.

3.1.6 Selected candidates shall be notified through the website for admission.

3.2 Through Direct Interview

The candidates seeking admission in Ph. D. (Without entrance test) are required to fill the requisite form available, as and when, notified on the University portal.

  1. SELECTION CRITERIA**

It is mandatory for all shortlisted candidates (through written entrance test or direct mode) to appear for a personal interview.  The calculation of marks for the selection of candidates should be done in accordance with the following weightage:

4.1 Through Entrance Test

5.1 UG - There will be a differential of minus 5% for B.Com. and minus 7% for non- Commerce UG degree as against B.Com. (Hons). UG, PG percentage shall be the weightage of marks obtained by the candidates.

5.2 M.Phil. (With commerce or management related discipline) from recognized University through regular mode only. M.Phil. completion or Viva conducted on or before the last date of filling up the form - 10% amounts to 10 marks.

5.3 JRF qualified in commerce or management related discipline (active JRF) on or before the last date of filling up the application form - 20% amounts to 20 marks. Active JRF implies only applicants whose JRF could be probated as per UGC rules, if admission is granted. Applicants who have qualified JRF but cannot avail fellowship if admission is granted, shall not be entitled for 20 marks. This is to encourage JRF availing scholars.

5.4 Teaching experience –Full-time teaching experience (UG/PG) shall be counted till the last date of filling the form. One mark for every completed year of teaching, subject to a maximum of ten marks for ten or more years of experience. (All fractions to be ignored).

5.5 In case of a tie in the final marks, date of birth shall be considered, giving preference to the candidate who is senior in age.

5.6 The onus of providing conversion formula from Grade Points (CGPA) to Percentage lies with candidates.
